Ensuring Code Compliance of
Fire Rated Duct Installations

Program: This program will provide comprehensive instruction on proper installation and inspection of fire-rated ducts and duct enclosure assemblies, including a review of applicable code requirements. “Symmetry testing” and “continuity” requirements in the International Building Code will be among the topics discussed.
The program will also cover the various compliance options for protecting HVAC systems in life-safety applications, such as stairwell and elevator shaft pressurization systems, and requirements related to duct penetrations in fire assemblies. Discussion topics in this part of the presentation will include product applications and common product selection and installation pitfalls.
Speaker: Mr. Joseph Hauf, P.E. is a licensed professional engineer in several mid-Atlantic and Southeast states. He began his career in life-safety engineering with Rolf Jensen & Associates, Inc., working in the Washington, DC office while studying Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland. Mr. Hauf has over 29 years of experience in life-safety and fire protection engineering, working on projects from concept through commissioning that include complex, high-rise, and mixed use buildings in many jurisdictions throughout the United States and abroad.
Business meeting: The chapter business meeting will be held at 12:00 p.m. The business meeting agenda will include election of officers and directors and an election to consider changing the constitution and bylaws to provide for separation from SFPE to become an independent organization. In accordance with the chapter constitution, only SFPE International members are currently permitted to vote in chapter elections.
